Anders Shafer - Gorky Escapes War

Arshile Gorky (1904-1948) escaped, when a child, the Armenian disaster and went on to become one of the great American artist-surrealist? The painting is about this escape from the fertile persimmon fields around Lake Vann, pursued by a branch of the Russian Army through the mountains of Istanbul. I tried to combine elements of my "modernist" culture with his Art, which is also a mixture of styles.
