Gustavus D. Dows of Lowell, Massachusetts was the first person to bring Ginger Ale to the United States (back in 1861).

The bottle has a round bottom. Many collectors will tell you their own opinion on the purpose of the round bottom. Some say because the bottles were used to help with the buoyancy inside the hull of ships. Others say the round bottom acts as a marketing ploy - once the bottle is open.. the customer must finish it before it can be set back down! Either way, it was surely an interesting time for American glass.
