Holiday Italian Red Wine Tasting (Dec. 14th) with Judd Adelman of Kobrand Wine Importers

Celebrate the season with a tour of Italy's great reds, from Piedmont through Tuscany and Veneto. Judd Adelman of Kobrand Wine Importers will lead the tasting, which ends with the 100-point 2023 Sassicaia.

The lineup

1. Michele Chiarlo Barbera d'Asti "Le Orme" 2023 – "Le Orme" means "the footsteps." It's Chiarlo's classic Barbera, blended from the family's five Barbera estates around Nizza, including the well-known La Court. Expect cherry, blackberry and spice.
2. Michele Chiarlo Barolo "Tortoniano" 2022 – 100% Nebbiolo, named for the ancient Tortonian marl soils it grows in. This is the estate's classic Barolo.
3. Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino 2020 – 100% Sangiovese from the Folonari family's estate in Camigliano, aged in large oak casks. Rated 92 points by Vinous.
4. Buglioni Amarone della Valpolicella Classico "Il Lussurioso" 2021 – "Il Lussurioso" means "the luxurious one," and the winery named it for its long, rich finish. It's certified organic and made entirely from estate fruit, and 2021 is considered one of Valpolicella's best vintages in decades.
5. Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2023 – Italy's original Super Tuscan, scored a perfect 100 points by Wine Advocate. The critic compared it to the legendary 1985 and called the challenging 2023 vintage proof that "great pressure can indeed give birth to diamonds." The blend is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc.
