Henry Martin Gasser (American, 1909 – 1981) is one of our favorite artists from the mid 20th century. Gasser’s works are found alongside many of the most established artists in the highest quality museums and galleries across the world. Throughout his life time, Henry Gasser won numerous awards for his watercolors.
Henry Gasser is often viewed as a second-generation ashcan school artist. Common ties between the paintings produced by Henry Martin Gasser and those created by members of the Ashcan School include a dark color pallet, lose brush strokes, and the general tendency to depict scenes of the living conditions of those belonging in a lower socioeconomic class.
